February

February may be the shortest month of the year, but at DVA, it is packed with activities, events, and learning.

Our 100th Day of School is February 1. At DVA, we love celebrating 100 days of learning!

Being a centenarian (person who is 100 years old) is quite an accomplishment. Eagles are encouraged honor centenarians by dressing up like a 100 year old.

100 years ago, in 1921, Babe Ruth hit his 138th home run. Boxer Sugar Ray Robinson was born. A postage stamp cost $0.02. Warren Harding was the 29th US President. Charlie Chaplin starred in the movie “The Kid”. The Ford Model T was all the rage. The first rotary dial telephone was used.

What we will we see in the next 100 years?

National Read Aloud Day is February 3. What is your favorite book to read aloud?

There is no school for our DVA Eagles on Friday, February 12 or Monday, February 15 in honor of Presidents’ Day.

In accordance with our HealthyVerify guidelines, Eagles will not be bringing in treats or cards from home for Valentines Day. Classes on campus may create cards using school materials and DL students may create digital cards. Eagles may wear Valentines attire on Thursday, February 11.

We are thrilled to embark on our very first Read-a-Thon! Our Read-a-Thon launches on Monday, February 15 and carries on for 2 weeks. Here is a link to sign up: https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/gQcXJE. Reading is one of our favorite things to do!

Kindness matters, DVA Eagles!

The Power of “Yet”

Welcome back, DVA Eagles! I hope you have enjoyed your summer break. Did you attempt to learn a new skill, like swimming, riding a bike, or playing chess? When we try something new that is difficult, we can be tempted to give up. Guess what? Learning takes a lot of effort! DVA Eagles don’t give up when things get difficult; they persevere. Eagles take risks and understand that mistakes are normal when trying hard things. We have a growth mindset and we believe in the power of “yet”. So, instead of saying, “I can’t”, and change your mind and say, “I can’t yet”. Change your words, change your mindset!

We look forward to a great school year, DVA Eagles! Mrs. Weigel
