Student Supplies

Teachers and learning coaches have been busy packing up student supplies and materials so our Eagles will have everything necessary to work while learning at home. We are including workbooks, journals, Weekly Readers, headphones, pencil boxes, headphones and any other personal belongings that may have been left in the classroom. It is sad to think that we will not be together in the classroom for the next six weeks. However, we are committed to providing learning opportunities for our Eagles throughout this challenging time.

We are designating tables in Character Central by grade level and classroom for student supplies. There will also be tables designated for lost and found items.

If you have requested to check out technology to be used at home for this time, you will be able to sign out your reserved Chromebook.

This is also an opportunity to return library books, order a yearbook, and pick up any medications from the health office.

The process Is designed for parents to be able to walk in to Character Central, retrieve their child’s/children’s belongings, and walk out. A minimal amount of staff members will be available to guide and assist while following social distancing guidelines. Teachers will not be present.
Parents will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines while waiting and while in Character Central.

Designated Pick-Up times:
Tuesday, April 14, 11AM-1PM, 4PM-6PM
Wednesday, April 15, 11AM-1PM, 4PM-6PM
Thursday April 16, 11AM-1PM, 4PM-6PM

Please contact your child’s teacher with any questions you may have.

Stay Home?

DVA Eagles: We are very sad that our campus is closed through the end of the year. However, we are excited that we get to keep on learning together!

Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman announced the extension of Arizona school closures through the end of the school year. Even though school is closed, students will be provided with opportunities for learning through virtual and take-home activities.

Teachers will communicate assignments via Remind, SeeSaw, Google Classroom, and virtual class meetings.

Students will have full access to all digital programs via the student links.

We miss you, Eagles! Stay healthy!

Pennies for Patients

We are so excited about our fundraiser, February 3-21, to support the heroes who are battling Leukemia and Lymphoma. To date, DVA is the #1 fundraising school in Arizona, donating $130,879.33 to the fight against blood disease. That means we have donated 13 MILLION pennies! We are SO close to the 15 million pennies mark, which is an award that has never been given out to any school in Arizona. If you stack those pennies, they would almost triple the height of Mount Everest!

This year, our school-wide goal is $10,000. If we surpass our goal, we will have a school-wide ice cream sundae party. Each classroom has a goal of $250. The classroom that raises the most money will be treated to a pasta party, hosted by Olive Garden. Which class will earn this delicious prize?

When we reach $5000, Ms. Weigel will dress up like a unicorn and ride a tricycle for a day! When we reach $10,000, who knows what she will do? Students are submitting ideas for her to choose from. We know it will be great!

Support a Former DVA Eagle

DVA students and staff become family and we often say, “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle”.  We are reaching out to support one of our own, Rico Montemayor Longoria, as he battles a rare brain tumor. Rico attended DVA for elementary school, and is currently an active 13-year old in 7th grade at Somerton Middle School. Rico’s tumor is causing pain and is affecting his vision.

DVA will be hosting an Olive Garden Spaghetti Plate Dinner to support Team Rico, on Saturday, November 16, from 12:00PM -2:00PM. Tickets are $10 each, and are available in the office.

Also, on Friday, November 15, in place of our $1 jean day, students and staff will be encouraged to wear a red shirt with jeans for any donation. Rico loves the Boston Red Sox, so we will support him by wearing red.

All proceeds collected on Friday and Saturday will go directly to support Rico and his family during this difficult time.

Thank you, DVA Eagles!
