Play at Home

Our team is hard at work providing resources for students to learn at home and Playworks would like to support our efforts with some additional resources. As we seek to find ways to provide resources amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, we would like to share the Play at Home series to support kids’ healthy movement and play while school-age students are home.

Below are three free resources:

  • Play at Home Webpage: A library of videos and other resources featuring games and activities families can play at home. Each game has limited use of equipment and meets the CDC requirements of social distancing. All available free on the Play at Home webpage. You can also follow all videos on social media using #PlayAtHome and #PlayworksAtHome.
  • Play at Home Playbook: This game guide has a variety of games and activities families can do in their own homes, with little to no equipment necessary.
  • Live Virtual Recess: A Playworks Coach leading a morning warm-up, a midday game, and an afternoon cooldown each day. Anyone can tune in to Facebook Live Monday- Friday at 9am, 11am and 1pm and play along. Watch what the experience will feel like.

We hope these resources will help maintain a healthy balance of academics and physical activity over the coming weeks.

COVID-19 Break Extended

DVA Eagles: We just received the following update from Gov. Ducey: Today, we are jointly announcing the extension of school closures through April 10, 2020. Our goal is to get kids safely back in the classroom as soon as possible while providing parents and educators certainty so they can plan and make decisions. We will continue to work together to determine what’s best for Arizona kids and schools in the face of COVID-19.

DVA will continue online learning next week, take a break March 30-April 3, and provide online learning the week of April 6-10.

Our DVA Educators ROCK! They have been providing creative, fun learning activities for our Eagles. Our student links are available for all students. Remember to read!

Project Wisdom for Monday, March 16, 2020

Good Morning, Desert View Academy Eagles. This is Mrs. Weigel with a few words of wisdom.

As a nation, America has a long history of overcoming challenges. We pull together and we do what needs to be done. We set aside our differences and look for ways to cooperate.

The challenge we are facing today is the coronavirus. We will get through this difficult time as we have in the past. Hopefully, we will come out on the other side smarter, stronger, and better equipped to face the next challenge.

For now, we must listen to the experts and also do a few simple things:

Keep our hands very clean by washing them frequently with lots of soap and warm water for at least twenty seconds. Avoid touching our eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Just like times before, this challenge will pass. In the meantime, let’s each do our best to help get through it together.

With something to think about, this is Mrs. Weigel reminding you to be respectful, be responsible, be safe, and be kind. The choice is yours.
